Angler's Exam Brandenburg: 60 Questions from the Question Pool, No Course, €25 – All Rules

In Brandenburg the Fischerprüfung (fishing exam) is called the Anglerprüfung (angler's exam). It is conducted by the untere Fischereibehörden (lower fisheries authorities) of the districts and district-free cities as well as by recognised angling examiners; the legal basis is § 19 of the Fisheries Act for the State of Brandenburg and the Verordnung über die Anglerprüfung (angler's exam regulations) of 2008. Special feature: the ministry publishes the complete question pool (600 questions) under the Datenlizenz Deutschland – Zero licence, and there is an official online test for practice.

Responsibility and legal basis

Responsible are the untere Fischereibehörden (lower fisheries authorities) of the districts and district-free cities as well as angling examiners recognised by the Landesamt für Ländliche Entwicklung, Landwirtschaft und Flurneuordnung (LELF) (§ 14 Abs. 2 of the regulations). The question catalogue is issued by the supreme fisheries authority, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, Environment and Consumer Protection (MLEUV). Legal bases: Fisheries Act for the State of Brandenburg (BbgFischG) § 19 and the Verordnung über die Anglerprüfung of 16 September 2008, last amended in 2024.

How the exam works

The Anglerprüfung is a written exam: 60 questions, 12 from each of the five exam areas – fish biology and fish stock management, care of fishing waters, fishing tackle and its use, handling of caught fish, relevant legal provisions – each with three answers (§ 7 of the regulations). The time allowed is two hours. Anyone who answers at least 45 questions and at least half in each area correctly passes (§ 9). In exceptional cases the exam can be taken orally; there is no provision for interpreters or foreign languages. There is no practical part.

No course, from age 14

A preparatory course is not mandatory (“Ein Vorbereitungslehrgang ist nicht vorgeschrieben”, MLEUV). Anyone aged 14 is admitted (§ 6 of the regulations, § 19 BbgFischG). Children from 8 years receive a youth fishing licence without an exam; fishing for non-predatory fish (Friedfische) is permitted in Brandenburg even without a fishing licence (§ 17 Abs. 4 BbgFischG) – the fishing levy must still be paid.

Fees

The exam fee is €25 (§ 14 of the regulations). The unlimited fishing licence costs €25, the youth fishing licence €2.50. The fishing levy is €12 per year or €40 for five years (€2.50/year for 8- to 17-year-olds).

Question pool and ScheinFit

The ministry publishes the complete question pool with 600 questions – 120 per area, as of 1 January 2010 – as a PDF on fischereischeintest.brandenburg.de; in the pool answer A is always correct, in the exam the answers are shuffled. The data set is released under the Datenlizenz Deutschland – Zero 2.0 (GovData). On the same page the state offers an official online test paper. ScheinFit contains the question pool unchanged (597 published questions), shuffles the answers, translates questions and answers, explains every answer and simulates the exam with 12 questions per area in 120 minutes according to the rule “45 in total and half per area”.
